What is the Dog Walker Watch program?

95% of police arrests are the direct result of a Citizen’s phone call. Dog Walker Watch is a new awareness program in the City that encourages neighbors to assist local law enforcement in the ongoing community-policing efforts.

How does the program work?
There are many dog lovers in Jacksonville, and therefore, many Citizens out walking dogs at all times of the day and evening, in all kinds of weather conditions. Jacksonville Police Department Community Services train Citizens how to effectively observe and report suspicious activity as you are out in your neighborhood during your daily dog walking routine.

Why is the training session important?
It teaches neighbors to become more aware and less hesitant to report supicious activity. Instead of being preoccupied with texting, emailing, and listening to music, Citizens learn what to look for, what details to give dispatchers or police, and how to remain calm in the process.
