Bicycle & Pedestrian Plan
BicyclistThe Jacksonville Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) completed the Comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan in June 2008. The purpose of the plan is to:
  • Provide a comprehensive approach toward identifying pedestrian and bicycle needs and deficiencies
  • Present a route network to address those deficiencies
  • Examine optimal design and policy improvements
  • Identify implementation strategies for the development of quality bicycle and pedestrian facilities and programs

The Comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan compliments Jacksonville’s Long Range Transportation Plan and should be viewed as an integral part of the overall transportation system.

Improved Safety
This plan provides a map to continue to increase mode share and safety for pedestrians and bicyclists throughout the region. Planning today is necessary to meet the community and facility needs of tomorrow. This is true, especially in Jacksonville, where 20% of the population walks to work. By offering choices and improved safety, the region can overcome its traditional shortfalls in bicycle, pedestrian, and greenway facilities and programs to create an integrated, safe, and convenient multimodal transportation system. This plan represents a comprehensive evaluation and program of action for addressing the immediate and long-term needs for bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
