Demolition & Clearance

The City of Jacksonville is committed to eliminating slum and blight conditions posing health and safety problems within the community. Through demolition and clearance of structures that pose health and safety risks due to disrepair or neglect, Community Development in the City is helping to pave the way for rehabilitation and renewal downtown and throughout the City.

Community Development Can Help
Community Development has limited funds available to assist property owners with demolition costs. The Demolition and Clearance Program provides this to assistance to property owners who are in violation of the City's codes and ordinances. Call 910 938-5286 for assistance.

Demolition Alternatives
Did you know Jacksonville Fire Services may have use for your dilapidated structure? Community Development partners with Fire Services to help reduce the cost of demolition. If your structure meets certain criteria like providing ownership documents and hazardous materials test, it may be suitable for Fire Services to conduct training exercise and burn the structure in a controlled manner. This can greatly reduce the cost of demolition for the owner and the City.

Guidelines for demolition and consideration for Fire Services training:
  • Structure must be in a dilapidated condition and pose a health and safety problem
  • Structure must be unoccupied and located within the City limits
  • Structure must have no outstanding liens, judgments, taxes, or pending litigations
  • Structure must be inspected by the City of Jacksonville's Code Enforcement or Inspections Department
