A new Inclusive Playground at Northeast Creek Park will be officially opened by the Mayor and City Council at 4:30PM, Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Mayor Sammy Phillips is expected to blow a whistle to start play at the new facility.
The new inclusive playground replaces an older facility. The City had a goal of providing equal access for children to play without regard to ability, age or comfort-level. While not all children will be able to use every activity, the goal is to offer all children a variety of activities at varying levels of difficulty in the same space.
Mayor Sammy Phillips and the City Council will gather at the playground, located near the splash pad, for a short opening ceremony. The event is open to the public.
The new playground is located at Northeast Creek Park, near the splash pad, at 911 Corbin Street, Jacksonville NC 28546.
