JPD Special Operations Unit Recognized - USDOJ Award for Region 5- Operation of the Year

 

The Jacksonville Police Department’s Special Operations Division (SOD) was recognized with an award during the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) Conference held last week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The US Department of Justice, United States Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of North Carolina selected Jacksonville Police Department for Operation of the Year:  “Straight Outta Niru” as part of the Take Back North Carolina Initiative for Region 5.

The award recognized the unit’s extraordinary efforts in the Take Back North Carolina initiative, which exemplifies the importance of partnerships between the US Attorney’s Office, District Attorney’s offices and federal, state and local law enforcement agencies across the federal district to combat drug trafficking, violent crime and crimes against law enforcement.  Additionally, SOD Detectives Timmy Carr and Justin Morris received individual recognition by the US Attorney’s Office for their work on the operation.   “We are very proud of the unit’s leadership and commitment to the Take Back North Carolina initiative” said Police Chief Mike Yaniero.
