[ARCHIVED] Timber Harvesting Marks Start of New Park & Ride

A portion of Recreation Lane at Jacksonville Commons will be closed in the coming week to accommodate timber harvesting that will clear the site for a new Park & Ride lot. Timber harvesting is scheduled to take place Monday, June 19 through Friday, June 23, 2017.

Residents and visitors to the Jacksonville Commons area will still be able to easily access the Recreational Complex and residential neighborhoods during the logging process. See the attached map for more information on the partial road closure.

The future multi-use parking facility will add 187 new parking spaces. The primary function of the lot will be to provide enhanced access to Jacksonville Transit, Amtrak, and Greyhound public transportation services. However, patrons of the Jacksonville Commons will also be able to use the additional parking spaces to attend community events, participate in various intermural sports, and enjoy festivities at the Jacksonville Amphitheatre, currently under construction.

While the City is contributing the property on which the Park & Ride facility will be located, funding for the project comes from a Federal grant. The project is expected to be complete in early 2018.

For more information about the project or road closure, contact Jacksonville City Hall at 910 938-5200.
