JPD Hosts Bicycle Rodeo
Bicycle safety event for youth – Grades K-6

Jacksonville Police Department’s Community Services Division will be hosting a Bicycle Rodeo on Saturday, August 6th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The event will be located in the parking area on Court Street, directly across from the Center for Public Safety (200 Marine Boulevard).

“We thought this would be a great follow up event from our Bicycle Giveaway at National Night Out earlier this week” said Corporal Daisy Haywood, coordinator of the Bike Rodeo. The Community Services Division held a raffle at National Night Out on Tuesday where more than 70 bicycles were given away to youth.

The Bicycle Rodeo is open to youth in Grades K-6. Admission is free. Activities include a Bicycle Inspection and Obstacle Course. The first 100 cyclists will receive a goodie bag. “We ask that the children bring their bicycle helmet.” said Corporal Haywood. “If they do not have a helmet, we will have one that they can borrow.”

Partners for this event include Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, City of Jacksonville Transportation, NC DOT’s Safe Routes to School Program and Bicycle Gallery.
