[ARCHIVED] JFES to hold Live Burn Exercise

Controlled Burn Map

Jacksonville Fire & Emergency Services personnel will conduct a training exercise in conducting a controlled burn at two structures in the area of Sherwood Road. The structures, located at 108 Sherwood Road and 106 Sherwood Road have been donated to the City for the training. The exercises will conducted on Thursday, April 21 and Monday, April 25. Each exercise will begin at 6PM and conclude at around midnight.

“This type of training is invaluable to the continued mission of the Fire & Emergency Services Department to be ready to fight fires and save lives. This training is a contributing factor in the agency’s national accreditation as a fire service” said Chief Mike Yaniero, Director of Public Safety.

Residents and visitors can expect heavy smoke in parts of the area. There may be some traffic congestion due to partially blocked streets, as well as elevated noise levels from the fire equipment on scene. There will also be bright lights from the apparatus and police vehicles. This temporary inconvenience is necessary to obtain this level of fire training. Every effort will be made to minimize inconveniences.

Motorist can expect some lane closures to accommodate the activity. Sherwood Road close one lane of travel between N. Marine Blvd. & Louise Avenue. Roosevelt Road will have one open lane of travel between N. Marine Blvd. & Louise Avenue.
