[ARCHIVED] Traffic Advisory for Saturday, October 31

Traffic Advisory:
Halloween Day Costumed Donut Eating Runners to Cross Gum Branch Road Twice
Saturday morning race to host hundreds of runners

If you see costumed runners downing dozens of donuts Halloween morning don’t worry it isn’t your imagination. It is the Krispy Kreme Glaze Kraze 6K, a fun run that has runners going from Jacksonville High School to Krispy Kreme and back. The run uses mostly residential streets but motorists should be aware that the runners will cross the busy Gum Branch Road twice.

The morning race involves several hundred runners. Many of them are to run to Krispy Kreme, consume a dozen donuts, and then run back to Jacksonville High School. Prizes are awarded for best costume, fastest challenger who runs, consumes the donuts and returns and in different age categories. The race is operated by the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission.

The race begins at 8AM from Jacksonville High runs across Gum Branch Road onto Dennis Road and through the Cardinal Village area before reaching the rear of Patriot Village and where Krispy Kreme is located.

Traffic will be maintained through the area, but may be delayed because of safety escorts for the runners and persons who expect to travel in this area during 8-11AM Saturday morning should allow additional time and use care when traversing the area. Some water stations and trash containers will be placed along the route.

Race organizers are asking as a sign of support to the runners, that residents consider moving their cars off the route Friday evening and to keep them off the route until the run is completed. They are also asking anyone in the area to help cheer on the runners.

A race day phone line is available for residents should there be issues with the race. The number is 910 545-0753. A map showing the race route can be found at JacksonvilleNC.gov/GlazeKraze6K.
