Construction-Related Sewer Spill
Failure of Contractor’s Pump leads to spill into Socoe Creek
The City of Jacksonville has been notified that about a thousand gallons of untreated wastewater has spilled into a creek in the Northwoods area as a result of a construction related failure of equipment.
The City has a contractor replacing an aging line along the full length of Jarman Street and then from Jarman and Barn Streets to Henderson Drive. A bypass pump being used by the contractor while the work is being done at Maple and Jarman streets failed, and before the failure could be dealt with, about a thousand gallons of wastewater spilled into Socoe Creek.
State officials have been notified and the City is following guidance on clean-up and sanitation of the area. No drinking water was affected and none is threatened by the spill.
The project has been underway since January 12 and is closing streets in the area as the nine month project proceeds.
