JPD and NCIS to Receive National Award
Civilian Law Enforcement – Military Cooperation Award
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) has selected the Jacksonville Police Department and NCIS Carolinas Field Office as the recipients of the IACP/American Military University Civilian Law Enforcement – Military Cooperation Award.
This award recognizes excellence in law enforcement cooperation between civilian and military law enforcement agencies in developing innovative joint efforts that lead to improvement in public safety for both military and civilian communities. JPD and NCIS’s nomination was selected by a subcommittee of civilian and military members of the Civilian Law Enforcement – Military Cooperation Committee (CLEMCC).
JPD and the NCIS Carolinas Field Office has a history of collaborating on a variety of investigations, operations, and law enforcement strategies. This partnership has enjoyed a strong and mutually beneficial relationship, often focused on violent crime and narcotics enforcement. Recent collaborations include the Sex Crimes Task Force and Serial Crimes Task Force, both resulting in brining dangerous criminals into custody.
“This tremendous law enforcement partnership and impressive result was the hard work of many people for many days. Everyone contributed pieces of the puzzle and eventually those pieces came together. We at NCIS were honored and proud to be a part of this investigation and task force. The collective efforts of this task force certainly made the community a safer place” said Jonathan W. Oakes, Special Agent in Charge, NCIS Carolinas Field Office.
“This cooperative partnership will have a lasting impact on those living, working and visiting the Jacksonville community, whether as a civilian or military citizen, with improved public safety and seamless law enforcement services” said Chief Yaniero.
The award is being presented to representatives of both agencies on Sunday, October 27, 2014 as part of the 121st Annual IACP Conference and Law Enforcement Education and Technology Exposition in Orlando, Florida.
