The City of Jacksonville is beginning a large street rehabilitation project next week. A contactor will rehabilitate and resurface parts of 21 different City streets. The work is being divided into three areas with roadway repairs in each area expected to take around 30 days. Work in area 1 is set to begin Monday.
The Jacksonville City Council has approved budgets with funds allocated for street rehabilitation and has adopted a policy of seeking to improve streets that for a relative small amount of money, can be kept from falling into poor condition by the use of rehabilitation. To create an economy of scale, streets funded for the last fiscal year, and those funded for this fiscal year, are being rehabilitated at the same time.
Visit www.JacksonvilleNC.gov/StreetRehab for an interactive map highlighting each area and each portion of road that will be rehabilitated.
Area 1 includes eight streets in the Northwoods area. Those streets are Vernon Drive (from Doris Avenue to Deborah Place,) School Street (from Henderson Drive to Oak Lane,) River Street (from Dogwood Lane to Maple Street,) River Court, Decatur Road (from Barksdale Drive to the north end of Brookview Drive,) Hendricks Avenue (from Smallwood Drive to Northwoods Drive), Carter’s Grove Circle, and Estate drive (from Quality Lane to the send end of Estate Drive.)
Area 2 includes Indian Drive (Cardinal Road to Brookdale Place,) Kevin Court, Marion Court (north of Nottingam Road,) King Richard Court (south of Celt Drive,) Steeplechase Court (east of McDaniel Drive), and Foxhorn Court (West of McDaniel Drive.) Rehabilitation on parts of these roads will not begin until roadway repairs in Area 1 are completed.
