JPD Torch Run for Onslow Special Olympics Games
JPD Officers participate in Opening Ceremony
Officers of the Jacksonville Police Department will participate in the Opening Ceremonies of the Onslow County Special Olympic Games on Friday, May 2nd, 2014. Officers and staff will accompany Special Olympics athletes by running the torch into Northside Stadium at Northside High School.
Officers and athletes will meet in the parking lot of Home Depot on Western Boulevard at 8:45 AM. The group will light the torch and proceed down Western Boulevard to Highway 17, turning right onto Highway 17. The runners will continue turning left at McDaniel Drive to Northside High. They will enter the stadium, making one lap around the track and stop to light the large ceremonial torch, symbolizing the official start of the Onslow County Special Olympics Games.
Corporal John Childress coordinated the event to honor the relationship between JPD and our community’s Special Olympic athletes. “We wanted to do something memorable with them to support their participation in the Games.”
Runners in the Jacksonville community are welcome to join the group in their support of Onslow County Special Olympics. It will be a slow paced run and we expect to conclude our activities at approximately 10:00 AM.
