[ARCHIVED] Remembering Our Fallen on Peace Officers Memorial Day

2022-PeaceOfficersMemorialDay

The City of Jacksonville, Public Safety will hold the annual Peace Officers Memorial Day observance 10AM, Friday, May 13, 2022. The location is changed to City Hall, 815 New Bridge Street, due to inclement weather.  Public Safety Remembrance Garden on Chaney Ave behind the Jacksonville Center for Public Safety

This ceremony is open to the public and coincides with the National Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week. National Peace Officers Memorial Day was established in 1962 by President Kennedy as a way to pay special recognition to law enforcement who lost their lives in the line of duty and in the protection of others.

Due to the pandemic, the annual ceremony was held ‘virtually’ for the past couple of years. Area law enforcement, community leaders, media and the public are all invited to attend this year’s ceremony.

Deputy Chief Ashley Weaver and City of Jacksonville Mayor, Sammy Phillips are scheduled to speak. Rev Joel Churchwell will provide the invocation and Regan Hartley from Jacksonville High School will perform the National Anthem. HQ Support Battalion, MCB Camp Lejeune will provide the 21 gun salute and Captain Timothy O’Toole with Jacksonville Fire & Emergency Services will perform taps. Law Enforcement will place a wreath in honor of those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place in Council Chambers at City Hall, 815 New Bridge Street in downtown Jacksonville. The ceremony will be broadcast on G10TV, G10TV.org and made available on the City's YouTube Channel.
