Investigation Continues into Incidents at Local Game
Multiple Incidents reported during a local high school basketball game on Friday, February 11
Jacksonville Police continue their investigation regarding multiple incidents that occurred at the Friday, February 11, 2022 Jacksonville High School vs Northside High School basketball game at Jacksonville High School.
In addition to the incidents, police have looked into a rumor of shots fired at the same location. No evidence has been uncovered to justify this claim. Ongoing interviews have revealed no eyewitness accounts or anyone hearing shots fired. No one has reported to have seen a firearm at the scene.
Jacksonville Police also confirm that Onslow County School officials reacted quickly and appropriately to provide safe shelter to those at the game. School officials are working in full cooperation with Jacksonville Police in the continuing investigation.
Director of Public Safety, Chief Mike Yanerio said, “This type of behavior is not acceptable in our schools or anywhere in our City. The safety for our students and our community, is our upmost concern. We will hold all parties involved responsible for the incidents and seek prosecution for their actions. We are asking the public to let us know if they have any information that can assist with our investigation. Even small details may be helpful.”
