Peace Officers Memorial Observance

Annual Observance Honors Fallen Officers

City officials and Jacksonville Public Safety will host a local observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 10:00 AM.  The observance will be held at the Jacksonville Public Safety Remembrance Garden, located behind the Center for Public Safety, at Court Street and Chaney Avenue.   Parking is available at the public lots on both sides of Court Street.

Community and law enforcement leaders from the region will be in attendance.   The observance is held annually to pay tribute to the thousands of men and women who serve with extraordinary bravery.  “The observance allows us to remember the heroes who have laid down their lives in pursuit of a safer, more just society” said Chief Mike Yaniero, Director of Public Safety.

The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 AM and will include an honor guard, ceremonial music, gun salute and laying of the ceremonial wreath.  Mayor Sammy Phillips will provide remarks.   The public is invited to attend.
