The Jacksonville Tourism Development Authority is charged with promoting tourism within the City. The Authority administers the City occupancy tax charged to overnight guests at Jacksonville lodging facilities which are used to promote tourism and travel.
Law requires the promotion to benefit the Jacksonville lodging facilities. It also benefits capital projects which improve the options for visitors to our community. Those projects have included the Museum of the Marine Plaza, Montford Point Marines Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Corpsmen Memorial, Freedom Fountain, and the Sturgeon City Environmental Education Center. Plans are in place for the Heroes Visitor Center.
The authority seeks to not duplicate information provided by Onslow County tourism and directs potential travelers to the Only In Onslow site operated by the Jacksonville-Onslow Chamber of Commerce. You can find information detailing lodging facilities, potential destinations, and fun things to do in our community.
A yearly audit is available for public review as is the proposed and adopted budgets for the Authority.
